HERCULANEUM LOVERS ON AUGUST 22nd 79 AD.
28 X 50"
Herculaneum was buried, along with Pompeii, in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius beginning on August 24, 79 AD. Bogdanoff's imagination of what life may have looked like prior to the eruption is depicted in this fresco. The couple is seen engaged in intimacy on a humid summer evening, caressed by the Gulf of Naples breezes, unaware of their tragic fate.
